Environmental protection

Our golden rule for purchasing, no matter if it is the egg for breakfast or furnishing:  Best quality, preferably regional, gladly organic, definitely healthy and sustainable with good and fair relationships to salesmen and producers.  The milk comes from cows in the Breisgau area, rolls and bread come from the bakery in Freiburg, the sausage comes from the regional butcher, our eggs are free-range, honey and jelly are from the Black Forest.  The nightstands in some of the rooms are made of oak wood from the Black Forest, the logs are the same age as the hotel, about 130 years.  


Water is a valuable good.  We reduce its consumption as far as possible without limiting the comfort of our guests.  We achieve this by for example by for some part installing formfitting bathtubs, by changing towels on demand and by applying water saving armatures and devices.  We only use cleaning supplies that are environmentally friendly and are exactly adapted to the water hardness and consistency in Freiburg.  We totally abstain from disinfectants and WC block cleansers.  Rain water drains away on the paved, unsealed areas in the courtyard of the hotel and on the five leafy platform roofs.  


Litter is avoided as much as possible and consequently separated.  A delicious breakfast buffet is served without single-portion packs.  We avoid plastic waste by for example using a metering system with highly concentrated cleaning supplies and refill soap dispensers with organic soap and showering gel.  Fruits, drinks and dairy products are delivered in returnable containers.  We give packaging back to our suppliers.  Electronic scrap, metals and colours are environmentally disposed of at the collection station in Freiburg.   


All guests and staff members receive free tickets for public transport in Freiburg and surroundings.  Three bikes owned by the hotel are also available.  Furthermore, we arrange road tests with a solar car or an E-Bike on demand.  For our business canvassers we keep road maps and directions to our partner companies ready.
